The latest installment of the Yellow Series from Mushroom Model Publications is devoted to the iconic Mig-15. This book clearly is written with the modeler in mind, as well over 100 pages are devoted to pictures, drawings or color profiles of the airplane.

The book is divided in the following sections

  • Introduction
  • Development
  • Development Versions
  • Series Productions of the Mig-15
  • Production in other countries
  • Detail photos
    • Fuselage
    • Wing
    • Cockpit and Canopy
    • Undercarriage
    • Engine
    • Armament
  • Color Profiles (69 of them)

The first few sections are concise in detail (mainly what was changed in each development version) and most of the versions have an associated 72nd scale line drawing, or at least those that had an external modification.

The Series Production and Production in other countries chapters covers details of all the versions and sub-versions (quantity, location, factory, etc.) produced in the former Soviet Union and under license. Of particular interest are some versions that were only produced outside the Soviet Union and either pictures or line drawings are available for them.

The real “meat” of this book is the walk-around section, whit about 120 pictures in full color and covering every detail I could think of. In addition to the pictures there are line drawings, 3D renders and sketches of the different sub-structures.

And to top it off there are the 69 full color profiles, some of them for very little know Air Forces that would certainly get your modelling juices going.

You can see a 4 minutes video (displaying all the pages of the book) at: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MQSQbft_h7Y

The very last page of the book has a comparison line drawing of the Mig-15 and the Mig-15bis, which is very interesting.

Mushroom Model Publications has delivered another jewel. Highly recommended to modelers interested in the soviet early jet era.

I would like to thank Mushroom Model Publications and IPMS/USA for the review sample.
