This is a new version of the King Tiger following up on the release of the Henschel version last year. My first impression was wow what a very well detailed kit. I did review this kit with the addition of the Interior set SPS-062 and Zimmerit Set SPS-060 so the picture will include parts not included in this kit. You can see my reviews of these on this site also. The set is very impressive with the amount of parts and detail included. The parts that would be cast metal on the real tank are well detailed and defined.

The kit contains

  • 10 sprues molded in tan styrene
  • 1 lower hull
  • 1 Photo Etch sheet
  • 1 Clear Sprue
  • 1 Metal gun barrel
  • 1 sprue of rubber ploy caps
  • 1 decal sheet
  • 1 instruction booklet
  • 1 Painting booklet in color
  • A limited edition Map

Construction

Step 1 through 5 - builds parts of the lower hull and suspension real no issues, except for a few injection pin marks that needed filling.

Step 6 through 9 - Builds and installs the rear armored wall. This was a very easy with no issues at all.

Step 9 - Assembly and install of the tracks, these comprise of lengths of track and links. There is also a jig included to assemble the upper track section in the correct shape which was very useful. The assembly was a little tricky but not a real problem, just be careful.

Step 11 through 20 - Assembles the upper hull parts. Once again these parts assemble very easily, very good design behind this kit makes it’s a dream to build. There are two photo etch grill to be made and a great jig is included to ensure they are formed correctly and this is a very nice touch and helps a lot. The upper hull is now installed on to the lower hull and it fits perfectly.

Step 21 through 23 - Installs the details to the upper hull, adds the skirts and additional tools. As with the rest of the build it was very smooth and great fit.

Step 24 through 35 - These steps builds the turret, which is a very good design and once again a very good fit.

The final step is 36 which adds the completed turret to the assembled hull.

The painting and decals were now completed. I choose to build the A version as you have three to select from.

Overall I found this kit great and it builds into a great model. This is very well detailed. Even though the kit has a lot of parts it is a dream to build.

Thanks go to MENG for providing this kit to review and IPMS USA for allowing me to review it for them.
