The company, Afterburners Decals, deals with mostly 1/48 decals and has many different sets of which most are of the newer and modern jets, although there are a few sets which contain decals for weapons and missiles. There are only three sets of decals in the 1/32 scale. In the past there weren’t many modelers building in 1/32 scale so the demand for decals in this scale wasn’t large enough to justify the need to produce them. But now, since there are many more modelers building kits in the 1/32 scale range, it stands to reason that the amount of kits sold in that scale are increasing as well, so Afterburner Decals have decided to try supplying the large scale decals again. If this works out, Afterburner will be making more sets for the large scale builders.

The decals I am reviewing are the East Coast Superbug Cags Part I. This set includes decals for the F/A-18E/F from three different squadrons: VFA-31 (75thAnniversary scheme), the VFA-105 and the VFA-211. This set also includes enough stencils for one aircraft. The decals are designed for the Trumpeter kit and are printed by Cartograf, which is one of the best decal companies in our hobby. Also included in this decal set are full color profile shots of each aircraft and an outline of the aircraft to show where the stencils go and painting recommendations to go along with each squadron.

The colors and registry are right on target. There is no overlap of colors and the clear outline is minimal. I have used their 1/48 set and I can assure you that they sat well and contoured perfectly, although I did use the recommended Microscale method. I also noticed that the carrier film was minimal and no problem with silvering had surfaced.

I definitely recommend these decals based on the quality and fine reproduction and also the value. For the price you get decals for three aircraft, color photos, and stencils. I would like to thank Afterburner Decals and IPMS/USA for allowing me to review them.
