Over the past few years Airfix has been turning out some stunning kits and thankfully the detail community has been stepping up to the plate to provide details for those new kits. No exception is the Czech company Brengun who has released a nifty detail set for the new tool Airfix DH.82a Tiger Moth series of kits.

Brengun provides a single photoetch sheet with instructions that incudes details for both the cockpit and exterior of the kit. Obvious interior details include the instrument panels, seatbelts, as well as bulkhead covers and control levers. I should note that I was not clear if I should have received some sort of instrument decal with the detail set as none was included. I don’t see this as a problem as the photoetch instrument fret fits nicely over the kit decals of the instruments. One great feature is the fact Brengun includes the cockpit doors which should look a bit more scale than the kit parts. Exterior photoetch parts include control horns for ailerons, rudder and elevator, wheel hubs, strut mounted pitot tube, wing attachment hardware and several fuselage underside details that were neglected in the plastic.

I should point out there is an older tool 1/72 Airfix Tiger Moth and since I don’t have one in my stash I wasn’t able to compare the photoetch parts to see if they would work on that kit. I believe MOST if not ALL of the exterior and many of the interior parts will work just fine. Possible exceptions may be the wheel hubs, cockpit doors and instrument panels. With a little effort from the modeler, even these parts should be usable.

In conclusion I am looking forward even more now to build the Airfix DH.82a Tiger Moth with all the wonderful details the photoetch set from Brengun will add to the finished model. I’d like to thank Brengun for providing the photoetch for review and the IPMS USA for allowing me to review it.
