For any modeler, but especially ship modelers, it is hard to achieve a realistic effect when gun barrels are out of round, warped or fail to have the right taper and shape; which is often the case with styrene injected or resin barrels. With smaller caliber guns and in smaller scales the barrels are often too fragile to handle. For these reasons turned metal barrels are an attractive alternative. Master Models continues to release well-priced brass barrels for the discriminating ship modeler.

This barrel set is for Zveda’s Borodino, a catastrophic loss during the Battle of Tushima Straits in the Russo-Japanese War. The set replaces all of the barrels in the kit from the main battery to the small caliber guns. The size is to proper scale and the shape and the taper of the barrels matches the prototypes including the correct flare at the muzzle. The 305mm barrels are realistically stepped just like the guns on the Borodino, and the muzzle is bored open. The 152mm guns are also nicely rendered with the flared and bored muzzle. The 75mm and 47mm guns are equally as nice even for their small size. These are much better and more petite than the kits barrels and well worth the investment for realistic looking armament.

I would like to thank Master Model for these review samples under their Sea Master line. Also to IPMS/USA for this set to review.
