Bf-109G Gun Packs and 109G-10 Wing w/Small Bulges, Wheels & Tall Tailwheel
Roll Models has come out with their own brand of aftermarket resin parts, Loon Models and we'll review two sets in this review- a gun pack set and a set to modify G-10 wings and wheels.
The gunboat Messerschmitt Bf-109 contains some of the best looking markings for the 109. So what is unique about this set? Well for one the centerline gun pod. As far as I can recall this is the only way you can get the centerline gun pod without scratch building it. The packaging refers you to the AJ Press #17 for pictures of the actual pod and installation. This will be very helpful. This will make your 109 different from the rest.
The wing gun pods are nicely detailed, but they don’t look much different from the kit offerings.
Everything is molded in blemish and bubble free light caramel resin you get six pieces, two wing pods, one centerline pod and three 20mm cannons. Each piece will require just a quick little cleanup and each pod will need the hole enlarged for the gun.
The venerable Revell Bf-109G is one of my favorite models. Sure it needs an interior but other than that out of the box it is quite nice and a fun build. The only thing about the kit is that it has large bulges and a short tail wheel which limits the aircraft you can do. This set will allow you to do more variants, including the G-10/AS and G-14/AS.
This set is molded in light caramel color with minimal flash and no air bubbles. The new upper wings have small wheel covers and are direct replacements for the kit parts. The wings are mounted on a stiff piece of cardboard to eliminate warpage. You also receive wheels to correspond with the smaller bulges. There is also a tall tail wheel which is normally seen on the G-10.
If you are looking for a first ‘conversion’ there aren’t many easier than this one. Plus if you have one or like me 30 of these kits this conversion will open up a lot of options for you.
Both sets are highly recommended
