Moebius Models continues to add to their growing line of Battlestar Galactica kits, including issuing some prefinished built up display kits.
Having grown up watching the original Battlestar Galactica, I was thrilled with the modern television series of the past decade. It is great to be a plastic modeler and have kits available from the series – thanks to Moebius Models!
Reviewed here is the Battlestar Galactica 1/4105 Painted and Assembled Display Model.
The kit comes in a sturdy outer sleeve with some nice artwork of the Galactica. The inner box shows the Galactica with a star background and the kit in a plastic cradle. My review sample arrived with one of the main engines separated from the kit, but it was a quick and painless repair.
The kit itself is stunning and full of detail! The Galactica is painted with a metallic basecoat, and fine paint work shows many different shades of grey to represent the panels on the actual craft. The effect is stunning. The detail doesn’t stop there, as the main landing bay has markings in front and back as shown in the television series, and the starboard landing bay is depicted as the Museum – with a fine Photo-etched “cover” both front and back. The undersurface of the kit is also well detailed and painted.
The kit also comes with a nice plastic display stand with the Colonial Crest, and the “Battlestar Galactica BSG-75” imprinted on it. A heavy metal rod to attaches the stand to the kit. Both work together to give the display a good solid footing and make an impressive presentation.
If you chose to do so, you can certainly add more weathering to this kit, but it honestly doesn’t need it. This is a perfect display piece right out of the box! The only thing I could recommend as an improvement would be to paint the display stand to make it stand out more.
I would highly recommend this kit to anyone interested in the TV series and wanting a quick an easy display model of the iconic Galactica. I have gotten nothing but compliments on this at work.
A huge thanks to Moebius Models for the review sample and for their desire to keep adding to the Battlestar Galactica family of kits.
