B13L 122 mm Rocket Launcher
Advanced Modeling is a new company and specializes in Russian and Soviet aftermarket items. They cover 1/48 and 1/72 scale items which are cast in beautiful gray resin. A great set of instructions and comprehensive decal sheet is also included. The resin is firm but not brittle and the details are awesome. For this review, the B13L 122mm rocket launcher is reviewed. It comes with four pieces with a back and front section.
As a bit of background, the S-13 is a 122 mm caliber unguided rocket weapon developed by the Soviet Air Force for use by military aircraft. It remains in service with the Russian Air Force and some other countries. S-13 rockets are shot from 5-tube launchers B-13L, that can be carried by most of Soviet and Russian attack and new fighter aircraft, like Su-17/20/22, Su-24, Su-25, Su-27, MiG-23BN, MiG-27, MiG-29.
On to the construction which is a breeze. Cut the front and back sections from the casting block. Make sure your cuts are square (a small miter box would be great for this). Glue the two sections together with super glue making sure the sections are true. Once dry, I wanted to make sure I had no seam so I added glazing putty, let it dry and cleaned the seam with lacquer thinner. A quick note here, the instructions come in both Russian and English. They are very well done.
In this case, the standard color was aluminum dope. I sprayed Tamiya gloss black thinned with lacquer thinner and when dry, Alclad Aluminum. It was off to decals. Each launcher is about 1.95 inches long in 1/72 scale and contains 21 individual decals. They are very well printed, release quickly and go on well. Once dry, Flory Model washes in dark grime were added, let dry and wiped away. A quick flat coat was added and we’re done.
Also included in the review, thanks to the wonderful people at Advanced Modeling are some great pictures of the real thing on display.
This is an awesome add on for any 1/72 plane and much better than anything that comes with a kit. Highly recommended. My thanks to the excellent people at Advanced Modeling for the opportunity to review this item.
