The AMMO by Mig company is prolific in the endless useful and specific sets of paints, washes, and pigments they release. Their range of acrylic paints are designed to make painting a breeze thanks to the ease of application, with the 17mL dropper bottles. All colors in the range can be mixed with each other and with the full range of AMMO by Mig Jimenez acrylic colors. Each color is suitable for both brush and airbrush application. These acrylics are water-soluble and formulated to be safe and non-toxic. If airbrushing, I would suggest thinning first as the paints are thick out of the bottle which make them great for brush painting.

This set includes 6 bottles which allow you to paint the initial StuG models armed with the short-barrel gun and the up-gunned versions introduced at the beginning of 1943. The release has been synchronized with the new StuG kits from Das Werk and one of these kit’s box art (the Ausf. G) is featured on the box art for these paints. These six acrylic colours are accurately matched and slightly lightened to compensate for the scale effect.

They include the following:

  • A.MIG-0002 ACRYLIC COLOR RAL 6003 Olivgrün Opt. 2
  • A.MIG-0008 ACRYLIC COLOR RAL 7021 Dunkelgrau
  • A.MIG-0009 ACRYLIC COLOR RAL 7027 Sandgrau
  • A.MIG-0010 ACRYLIC COLOR RAL 7028 Dunkelgelb (Mid War)
  • A.MIG-0015 ACRYLIC COLOR RAL 8017 Schokobraun
  • A.MIG-0024 WASHABLE White Camo

There is a photo guide on the back to aid in selecting the colors—and include the various models through the span of 1939-43. I used a Dragon kit I had put aside for as bit to test out the Dunkelgrau, as well as the new Tamiya Challenger 2 for the Sandgrau as it looked to be a good match for the Desert Sand color I was looking to use. Coverage was excellent with and without primer and clean up was quite easy with some water and a bit of 91% isopropyl alcohol to clean the airbrush.

Conclusion

AMMO really have done it again—providing the modeler with a great base set of colors to use for any of the StuG kits, new or old, in your stash. The colors look to be spot on and the range in this set make for recreating nearly any wartime scheme. Ease of use and clean up seals the deal for me! My thanks to AMMO by Mig Jimenez and IPMS-USA for this sample set.
