The new ICM/Special Hobbies AH-1G Cobra kit is well overdue. With its release the AH-1G Cobra has come into the new millennium. One of the nice features of the ICM/SH kit is the five-piece canopy that will allow you to pose the canopy doors open and view the interior. Even closed up the canopy is very clear and you’ll be able to see the interior very well.

Red Fox Studios has designed an instrument panel set for these kits. It comes in a small baggie with a hard paper backing. The actual parts are protected in a separate Ziplock. Red Fox 3D acrylic renderings are on a metal backing with the raised acrylic over that. The parts come off the protective backing quite easily. All you’ll have to do is remove the molded-on detail and add the Red Fox parts after dipping them in water. No further modifications are necessary.

The set includes both front and aft instrument panels and side consoles. The relief is beautifully rendered with very petite markings. You can read the markings in some places. How they can do that so well is beyond me. The colors look spot on, but mostly black, including the instrument limit markings. The panels also have information stencils found on the real thing. Unfortunately, the set does not include seatbelts.

I defy anyone to paint their panels better than what is printed. I know it is certainly above my skill level. Adding these parts is so much simpler and easier to do. I’m a convert.

Beautiful, crisp and clear markings along with simple application with minimal work makes this set a winner. I would like seatbelts, but even without them the upgrade to your G model Cobra will be miles ahead of what you could paint.

Highly recommended
