This complete die-cut adhesive mask set is "just what the doctor ordered" to cure the masking blues. Especially if you’re building the Revell/Monogram AC-47 Gunship. This must have set includes: wheel mask, landing light mask, observation dome mask, windscreen panel mask, and exterior cabin window mask. The masking media used for this set is the typical high-quality product we’ve seen and used for years (very similar to Tamiya tape). The die-cut patterns fit perfectly to their respective proper location. They’re easily peeled away from the backing paper, and repositioning is just as easy. Preparation before painting is key to a nice looking model and masking plays a vital role in this preparation. The clean sharp edges of perfectly-fitting masking are hard to beat. After placement of the mask, I lightly burnish them with a rounded toothpick to prevent any leakage.

Skunkmodel from China has released a very nice and useful kit: Royal Navy Tow Tractor. I’ve believe this particular tractor has seen service with the Royal Navy since the mid-1960’s until the early 2010s so you have a multitude of aircraft that can easily fit into a diorama.

The box comes with 3 sprues, two of them are identical – one for each Tow Tractor - and a 3rd sprue with a total of 9 figures, although only one of them is a driver. Six of the figures are wearing short sleeve shirts which means only tropical locations for your diorama (i.e no South Atlantic or Artic operations). You still have 3 figures with long sleeves.

This is my second review of Brengun Carrier tie downs. The first was the “cross” style. This is the newer, more modern star type.

These items are used as the anchor for tying aircraft or anything else that needs to not move, to the deck. A hook at one end of the tie down is put around one of the star legs and the other end is adjusted to hold the aircraft in place.

On the WW2 wooden deck carriers, the tie down anchor was a long piece which ran from one side of the deck to the other, replacing one of the boards in the wooden deck. After the Navy went to steel decks and angle deck carriers, they used a cross type anchor.

Today’s supercarriers use the star type anchor. They can be either yellow or white, depending on what year you’re doing the model. I kind of suspect that when the deck tractors changed over from yellow to white, the anchors changed color too.

British hard edged camouflage is always a pain in the butt to get to look right. Eduard has provided a way to make this camouflage simple and easy. Kabuki tape masks. The Kabuki tape is flexible and provide a perfect hard edge.

You will have to find the exact aircraft that you building to determine if it has the scheme A or B. It use to be ‘known’ that even number aircraft had the A scheme and odd numbers had the B. Well that isn’t quite true. It is more of a guideline than a hard fast rule.

This set has two sheets of Kabuki tape masks. One is for the wings and the other is for the fuselage and tail surfaces.

This masking set is designed for Eduard’s L-39 Albatros kits and includes masks for all three sections of the canopy and for the main gear tires. As with all of Eduard’s mask sets, the fit of the masks is excellent as long as you take a little time to line them up.

For the main canopy sections, the set provides masks for the outlines of the canopy frames. and the instructions tell you to fill in the rest with liquid mask. As there is a lot of extra material on the mask set outside of the pieces to be used, I instead cut small pieces from the extra tape and used it to fill in the rest of the canopies. On interesting inclusion are masks for the clear divider section that goes between the cockpits. I did not use it as I left this piece out until final construction of the kit. I’m not sure how I would have gotten the mask off if I had used it and installed the part prior to painting.

Some Assembly Required

This Vertigo-Miniatures jig requires assembly, and that is just a bit ironic since it will be of considerable help to the hobbyist during the assembly process of one’s latest modeling project. Assembly is straight-forward requiring a little super glue and about 10 minutes of one’s time.

The instructions provide a parts list and a couple of diagrams which identify parts and illustrate how they are attached. Just follow the instructions and it’s a very simple process.

There are a few points about assembly that one should note.
