This is a new scribing tool that was added to UMM-USA’s line of modeling tools this fall. The fine chisel point allows the tool to be used either to clean out or sharpen existing panel lines or create new ones. The hook point has a nice sharp triangular point that easily cuts through plastic and allows you to adjust the depth and cutting angle by moving your hand.

The textured handle helps you keep a good grip on the scriber and find the position that is most comfortable for you.

I used the scriber to re-scribe the panel lines on an old Airfix Vulcan (the original kit, not the new one) as sanding and filling the joints on the upper and lower wing had pretty much obliterated the original raised panel lines. Using the scriber and a small plastic ruler I had no trouble creating new panel lines on the flat body of the Vulcan and using a thin flexible metal straight-edge I was able to scribe new panel lines over the curved spine and nose of my Vulcan.

AMMO by Mig Jimenez

A new release from prolific AMMO by Mig Jimenez, is this three-color acrylic paint set labeled for the three tone NATO camouflage. The paint comes in 17ml plastic bottles, complete with a stirring ball, in a clear plastic clamshell box. While the paints can be procured individually, the three major colors are included (and most likely cheaper than buying them individually). The following paints are included:

  • AMMO 0046 Matt Black
  • AMMO 0084 NATO Green
  • AMMO 0085 NATO Brown

I am a fan of AMMO acrylic paints and am very impressed with this paint set. While advanced modelers and painters can mix their own colors, basic modelers like myself prefer the easy off-the-shelf solution provided in this set. With the plethora of NATO vehicles wearing the NATO three tone camouflage since the 1980s, there are numerous vehicles waiting to be painted with this easy-to-use solution. The paints are also odorless and non-toxic.

AMMO by Mig describes their new acrylic Plasticator as formulated for sealing porous surfaces such as wood, plaster, or ceramic to provide a plastic-like finish. The Plasticator is applied directly from the bottle with a brush. AMMO’s website provides demonstrations of how Plasticator can be used over plaster, wood, and foam to allow finishing with enamels, oil paints and washes. The instructions say to let the product dry for 24 hours before priming and painting, but it seemed to be fairly dry after an hour or so.

Plasticator comes in two consistencies, thin and thick. The thick product is about the same consistency as fresh white glue. The thin Plasticator is more like the consistency of white glue mixed one to one with water. By comparison, Future floor finish is a little thicker than the consistency of water. I used water to clean the brushes after applying the Plasticator.

The design features built-in handles, a cover which is easily removed with no special tools, the ability to be outfitted with lighting (provided as an accessory) as well as the ability to be hung on a wall or displayed on a shelf or mantle.

The Cherry hardwood grain is beautiful, and the care to the overall finish—the smoothed edges, the gentle curves—gives it an elegant appearance which only compliments any fine model in your collection.

While most Americans might believe otherwise, the first production automobile was built in Germany in 1886 by Karl Benz (of Mercedes Benz fame). The Benz Patent-Motorwagen was built in very small numbers between 1886 and 1893. ICM first released a kit of this vehicle in 2020, with photo-etch parts for the wheels and and drive chains. This year they released an “easy” version of the kit that replaces the photo-etch parts with plastic versions at a significantly lower cost.

The kit comes in ICM’s sturdy thick cardboard box and consists of several sprues of parts in a soft gray plastic. The softness of the plastic is good, because it means that the many small, delicate parts tend to bend rather than break.

The parts had almost no flash and very few mold lines. This is fortunate, because filing or trimming off excess plastic is almost impossible on many of the parts due to their small size and fragile nature.

With a new acrylic formulation and from natural minerals, AMMO's new acrylic formulation of texturing product, Terra Form Premium Concrete, enables you to recreate 'real' concrete. The light grey tone with a variable texture also grants you the ability to create realistic groundwork for your small scenes and dioramas. The texturing product is recommended for scales 1/48th to 1/16th but don't let that be a limiting factor as you move forward with your plans.

The Terra Form concrete comes in a 100ml tub and may be thinned with water and may be combined with other AMMO texture products for custom tints. Clean-up is a breeze as that can be done with the aforementioned water. This along with all of AMMO's texturing products dries completely within 24 hours and may be sanded should you desire a more finished look.

The set is part of a new line of 3D printed 1/35 scale accessories. The kit contains one instruction sheet, photo etched straps and a one 3D printed part with four weapons on supports.

To begin, I primed the weapons using Tamiya Fine Surface Primer while they were still on the supports. Next, I air brushed them with a base coat using AK Interactive Gunmetal.

I removed the first weapon by cutting the supports at the bottom due to the tight fit and to prevent unnecessary damage to the gun. Once it was free, I then carefully removed the figures see picture 7.
